What a Canadian pardon isn’t
Many people think a pardon (now known as a record suspension) purges your past either by removing your records completely, forgiving you completely in the eyes of the law or putting the information in a locked box that no one will ever have access to.
The truth is, a pardon moves your records from one official database to another because the government recognizes that if you’ve made a mistake and “turned your life around” that they will give you a break for your effort to lower recividism. Your convictions would move to a database that US border guards do not have access to and no one can get access to them unless there is a legal application (for a good reason) to get this information.
Your pardon can be revoked if you acquire another conviction.
