Many applications or job criteria may need to ensure you are bondable in Canada. Bondable means you can be insured against loss or harm. If you are not bondable then the company you may work for cannot get insurance because it means risk for them. It means if there is a company or person that has sensitive company information, financial information, risk of theft or harm to another individual or place that you won’t be bondable. Driving a truck for example – you could be a liability if you are not bondable due to potential theft, working as a PSW and going into someone’s home – if something goes missing (and you didn’t take it) and you omitted your background, etc. you could be suspected of being the offender.
If you have a criminal record, chances are the company will not hire you and if you lie and something happens – whether you are at fault, or not, you and/or the company could end-up in scalding hot water.
If you are not bondable you may not be employable in many industries. If you haven’t received a record suspension (pardon) then your chances are pretty slim. If you have your record suspended you could become bondable. Call us for more information about becoming bondable with a criminal record in Canada.
